The Un-Anchored Moon

The Un-Anchored Moon

Lori Lieberman

We live in shadows and in shapes
Defined by a line so thick and straight
We move in circles ’round the things we don’t say
Equi-distant from our points of pain

And our love is not a gentle curve
It’s all right angles and obscure
Where there was light, no aperture
And I don’t know how long we can endure this

April, May, July, and June
How can I get next to you
When one is spinning off its axis
And one is the un-anchored moon

And I’ll never know what made you leave
You said you left long ago, and that I just didn’t see
And who we were is still a mystery to me
Guess there are shades of being awake
And degrees of sleep

But is there something we agree on
Some litle thing that we can lean on
Give me something to believe in
I bow to the un-anchored moon
The un-anchored moon

So it goes
And it hides
And it dies
And it rises
With time
Time…

Does it make it all better
Does it make it all right
If you cut off a dog’s tail just a little at a time
And who can say the way the story will go
Will there be a big boom blast or will it just erode

April, May, July and June
How can I walk away from you
When one is spinning off its axis
And one is the un-anchored moon

The un-anchored moon
