Daughters And Sons
Lori Lieberman
I woke up this morning and I put the coffee on
A message from my publisher to say why he had called
With Christmas round the bend he said, “They’re looking for a song
Something to lift the spirits just about three minutes long”
So I wrote a cheerful melody and I put it in the mail
With thoughts of money in the bank and million dollar sales
But my heart it laid so heavy and my mind it felt so wrong
With honesty this time around here is my Christmas song
Merry Christmas daughters and sons
One more reckless year has come and gone
In a war that rages on
Merry Christmas sweet child of mine
When I tell you open your eyes
To a world of lullabies
Silver presents wrapped up in tinsel
Ribbons green and gold
Windows etched in snowflakes and icicles
They’ll be coming home
Merry Christmas daughters and sons
It’s not Christmas till this is done
And you’re back home where you belong
Merry Christmas daughters and sons
One more reckless year has come and gone
We’ll have Christmas when this is done
This is my Christmas song….
